-=> Quoting Susan Bulla to Suzze Tiernan <=-
ST> I have heard good things about them. There is something about the time
SB> period ST> that turns me off. Must be my years of Latin in Catholic
SB> School. ST>
SB> That would do it! Do you have the same reaction to Brother Cadfael?
Not really. I have only read one Brother Cadfael, "A Morbid Taste for
Bones" but I found it quite amusing, and a good read. I just taped "The
Devil's Novice" on PBS as I had never seen one of the televised ones.
ST> I have never read any Sherlock Holmes. (My son had read almost all of
SB> them). ST> But I LOVED BEEK.
SB> "Monstrous Regiment" is next. I just haven't opened it up yet.
It is a much "deeper" book in my opinion. Very much into theology and
feminism.
ST> I started reading a new author yesterday. Her name is Barbara Jaye
ilson
SB> and ST> the book is called "Death Brims Over". The main character,
renda
SB> Midnight, is ST> a milliner. The marketing on the book has been great.
SB> First we got a postcard ST> touting it, then a little hatbox with a
SB> black rose in it. It made me pick it ST> up! And it hooked me from
SB> page one! ST> I really like the writing style and the characters. It's
SB> in paperback.
SB> I'll try to keep her name in mind (ha!) for the next bookstore foray.
I finished it yesterday and LOVED it. I really like all the characters,
Johnny, her ex-boyfriend who stars in an action t.v. show, Elizabeth,
an ex-hippie ex-artist, and Chuck, the computer fanatic.
