Well, it IS a very Disnisical look at those times. People were
supposedly offended because it showed slaves as happy people, singing
songs, telling stories and painlessly integrating with white people. I
think it's silly. This is an excellent movie. I watch it quite often,
sometimes in English but mostly in Japanese.
What the movie really seems to be about is a guy that is willing to
spend time with the kids - when all the other grown-ups are too busy. He
hangs out with them and listens to them and entertains them with fables
about animals.
