I wouldn't have called it a political appointment but, yeah, I can easily
see that interpretation.  Dave was a very well qualified (800 in the
physics test; 1550+ in his combined SATs; 80% or better in every subject in
high school; I could go on and on) and his dad was, as I said, already a
colonel (I think it was full but don't quote me) in the military.  West
Point's loss; VMI's gain.
