Well the BBS is just not the same as it was over 10 years ago. Today, instead of dialup, you have to educate your potential target about how to "telnet" to a BBS. Then be prepared that maybe most users might not adjust easily to the ansi/ascii way of seeing a board. For me, a BBS's draw has been the message areas. When fidonet technology blossomed, the whole idea of echomail was fascinating and how it linked systems and people from around the world. But I think the echo areas can experience a revival if new people are introduced to jamnntp methods of accessing the message areas. So.. we need to think outside the box and go to where your target audience is now. If you want to attract gamers, consider posting a few announcements on several www game forums. If your target audience is for messaging, educate potential users to nntp-based fido BBSes so that people can use their existing newsgroup programs for a quick and simple solution.
