On 5/26/96, Cloyce Osborn said to Vern Humphrey concerning Kevlar vests: 
  CO> deader than a mackeral.  As you point out, Kevlar can't defeat sharp
  CO> points and edges.
The research lab I work for has come up with a 3-D braided Kevlar cloth that 
is better at stopping pointy type objects, 'cos it's a solid braided piece 
(as opposed to layers of cloth).  Of course, the stuff is tough to make and 
expensive as hell.  We're working on THAT... ;)
