RM> They won't think about it much though. Only a decent number of RM> seats gives any party leverage. They can now moan about things RM> being passed that they don't like (the green party can) but RM> with no fprce behind it they will be ignored much like the RM> NDP has been in the past 11 years. MG>But growth is growth. The NDP have had some too. They also won an election at one point (briefly). Then they discovered that the numbers have to add up or you can't keep your promisses.. Had they gotten in this time they would have been in the same boat IMHO.. No way could they have done half of what they wanted to. MG>What the scene might be in another 11 years is anyone's guess. True.. Hopefully they will all learn something and one of the partys will emerge offering a comfortable middle-ground for most things. It seemed to me everyone was a bit radical in their thinking this time around, with the possible exception of the Liberals who were too concerned with getting elected to make any real promisses other than they'd clean up their act. MG>Were I king, every citizen would have to cast a vote and there would be an >abstain box on the ballot. And no lawyer could sit in the Commons. I think Arthur C. Clarke said it best... "Anyone who deliberately aims at the job should be disqualified." After all.. when you spend $2 million of your own money (and lord knows how much of other people's money) to get a job that pays $150,000 a year there's something else at work there... RM> No question people want to see better handling of the coffers.. RM> That's what this 'near loss' was all about... However, I'd think RM> if Martin ran Tomorrow he might pick up enough votes to form a RM> majority because a LOT of people in Quebec would, I think, dearly RM> love to change their vote from the P.Q., now that their true RM> colours are showing, and Quebec only votes P.Q. or Liberal. MG>True colours? Advise. Before the election he kept saying that his party was running to give Quebec a better voice in parliament and that it had nothing to do with wanting to remove Quebec from Canada and form their own country... After winning a huge number of seats in Quebec, during his 'victory' speech the first thing he said was, "This is the first step to having our own country!". Even his own supporters there started booing him at that point.. RM> That's only a viable 'choice' though if you KNOW what everyone RM> is planning to do to/for you once they get in... MG>You got to trust them to be telling the truth then. > Such hard is exceedingly hard to come by. To a point.. Most of the time they won't do, or be able to do, some or much of what they promissed but there's usually an underlaying agenda. You know which way they are leaning and whether you think that's the right direction for you or not... Then add a lot of prayer.. I'm not sure that will help but it couldn't hoit...
