There are several makes and models out there. I work for an Oce'-Bruning 
dealer and they have several stand alone scanners that look somewhat like a 
copier. Just feed the original in and it scans it thru.  They do more than 20 
different raster formats, and come with some viewing software.  Several 
software vendors sell raster to vector convertors to be able to use AutoCad 
to edit your scanned image.
If you can't find an Oce' rep or dealer in your area, let me know and I'll 
find you a national sales number.
