Al I'm more in agreement with you than I am with Andy. To address andy's
point, I think a lot is being done on the national level that we may not know
about however, the real development of leadership has to start at the state
and local levels. I think Dr. Jernigan is gradually turning over the reigns.
I am also in local leadership and a couple of years ago, we had a change in
chapter presidency where a fellow who had been chapter president for 20 years
decided not to run again. In that particular case, a number of us who were
long time chapter members tactfully urged him not to run. It wasn't because
he was a bad president it was that he could concentrate his activities in
areas where we had a need and he could still be an important member which by
the way he still is. Now that he's no longer president, it was a major
burden off his shoulders. I think if he were to be president again, he
ultimately might be more effective. I've been secretary of the chapter for 6
years and I put everybody on notice that I will not run again next year for
the position. I want to perform other functions just like Tom Bickford has
done over the years.
