Hi
  Although I've mentioned this before it is probably worth repeating that
it isn't hard, given sufficient case space, to use an old AT PS just to
power drives, fans, etc. even video cards with their own PS connectors. 
Not only does this leave the full power of your exisiting ATX PS dedicated
to only mobo/cpu, but it also means that with separate power switches one
can leave drives spun up full time, increasing lifespan.  By cutting down
the PS case I managed to put an AT PS in 2 X 5 1/2" bay spaces with
very little depth used up.  In fact there was room in that mid-tower case
to place a "blowhole" exhaust fan (the old AT PS fan) between the
two PSes.  It was fairly simple to construct a 2 bay faceplate with
switches, LEDs, and grillework to finish it off.  Works great.
