Yes stick the DLINK in between to add a layer of protection. your
computers will then have IP addresses of 192.168.0.xxx
You also have TELNET in the TCPIP suite. to telnet to the DSL modem, you say
telnet ipaddress <== address of the CUSTOMER side of the DSL MODEM an
address that the paperwork should tell you how to find.
