That's not correct, Jean. "+++" is the default escape code, not xoff.  
The problem may appear when you are connected to another modem  and want 
to go to command mode. For that you have to send the escape code to the 
local modem, but some remote modems also understand the "+++" as an 
escape code and also go into command mode. When you come back with the 
ATO command, the remote modem remains in command mode and the connection 
is "frozen". It's possible that those modems would come back from 
command mode if you send another ATO, but I've never tried it. That's 
why I changed the escape character to "@" in my Sportster and suggested 
you to do the same.
