When you see him doing this, try to touch that foot and massage the toes
if possible. See if he's having foot cramps or if the toes are stiffer
than usual. Years back, my jenday hen, Rio, used to pull at her toes. I
felt her foot one time when she did this, and found the toes rigid. A
vet visit turned up pre-gout symptoms (high uric acid levels). A month
of medication and a new diet cured it, thankfully. If your bird's toes
seem hard to bend, a vet visit might be in order.
Thanks Kathy
He is left- handed (eats with that foot)
His right foot is the one he waves and I now have noticed that after picking
up a piece of food with his left foot and munching, he drops it and waves his
rt foot
Thought he might be acting as if he had a cramp in it
Will alter size of perches again as well
Checked as you suggested and his foot does seem a bit rigid
We have no bird doctors here in Bda but I will contact the Bermuda Aquarium &
Zoo and see what they say
Although they have lots of birds-- am not too sure of their expertise.
What sort of diet did you have to use? What did you eliminate?
Medication?
I really appreciate the advice Thank you!!
