Fielding statistics have lagged behind offensive statistics in terms of
effectiveness.  Fielding percentage is about useless in measuring the
defensive ability of a player.  At least range factor and zone rating
attempt to take into account the number of plays a fielder actually
makes, as opposes to the ones he misses.
Fielding percentage is about as useless a method for determining a
player's defensive ability than watching ESPN highlights.
