   You are in charge of your computer, just not the Broadband 
modem/router, which I believe belongs to your ISP.

   You can leave the DHCP component running and ignore it - it'd be nice 
to know what IP range it assigns though - so why not connect a system 
running a DHCP client to see what it gets assigned - and also note what 
DNS address(es) default gateway address and subnet mask it gives.

   You can then set you own systems to "your" range within the vast 
range of 10.x.x.x addresses available and set all the other parameters 
(subnet mask), default gateway and DNS adress(es), the same as it 
auto-assigns,
