Hello August!

 In your message you said:

AA> I looked for some "writing" and "creative" ngs too.
AA> Every one was peppered with spam/unrelated messages.
 AA> I don't think it's worth gating any of that. I saw

AA> already established writers looking for publishers and
 AA> work contacts.

Hmmmm. I didn't see much that would be considered off-topic in the
alt.creative.writing group. Besides, my filtering is quite strict on
incoming data from NG gating. The alt.writing didn't have anything that was
ON-topic, so it's not even considered.

AA> I think the WRITING echo can stand on its own if it
AA> can get the attention of some key contributors.
AA> There's a writing group in my town for which I set up
AA> a modest website and message board in the past. But
AA> when the site and message board went "pay only", no
AA> one thought it was worth the expense to subscribe.
AA> Maybe fido echomail is a good alternative for the
 AA> group.

Let's see if re-listing the Echo and getting an active moderator can do
something to aid it. But I think that the gating should not be discounted
quite yet. And YES, Fido EchoMail is, IMO, the only logical choice for these
types of communications, particularly with the newer technologies available
to BBSes now, making them even more reachable... Including Point programs.

AA> I'll see what I can stir up to steer some group
AA> members to using fidonet. Nntp based access will bea
AA> blessing at this first attempt to get their interest.

Yes. I'm considering setting up that sort of access here as well, if
there's an OS/2 program that will handle it.

Best regards,
Marc
