   I think Ken was trying to suggest that the aliens would happen to
drop by one day and go
   "Hey, look! They've invented cloning, and nuclear power, and the
    Internet!"
   "What're they?"
   "Oh, technology our race threw away a thousand years ago because it
    was too dangerous. Still, it shows they're on the right track.
    Let's hang around and watch them for a while."
   Of course, there's a problem with this idea. Reports of alien
encounters predate all or nearly all of the "5 reasons". Even if they
didn't, the aliens would have to be here already to find out that
these "reasons" exist. Which raises the question: What were they doing
on Earth *before* they had a reason to visit?
