"Recommendation"

Hi John,

[snip]
JC>I figure that REXX should be able to do this task for me.
JC>Could you recommend a book on REXX that I can use to teach
JC>myself REXX so I can create a REXX script to do the
JC>necessary editing?

It can.

I see JdeBP has already supplied you with a program to do this. He has
written it in Object REXX, so that might be a consideration.

JC>I looked up on the net Amazon Books USA and found 6 books
JC>and Amazon Books UK and found 13 books but can't decide
JC>which book is best.

For Classic REXX I normally recommend "Programming in REXX" by Charles
Daney, ISBN 0-07-015305-1. This book is not OS/2-specific, but covers SAA
REXX very well as a language.

For Object REXX, I recommend "Object REXX for OS/2 Warp" by Trevor Turton
and Ueli Wahli, ISBN 0-13-273467-2. As its title implies, this book is
focussed on OS/2. It also covers some of the more popular GUI tools for
REXX, notably VisPro REXX, VX-REXX (R.I.P.) and Dr. Dialog.

If you plan to work on Jonathan's code then the latter would seem the
obvious choice, as Daney does not cover Object REXX.

JC>Thanks for your time.

You're welcome.

Regards

Dave
