Damon,

DAG> I'm starting to wonder how easy it might be for me to move to a Pi, or ot
DAG>arm device, with SSD storage, for my next incarnation. This PPro has been
DAG>monolith of stability, but I'm starting to wonder how much longer that's go
DAG>last.

Unfortunately, with the law of entropy, sooner or later, in this life,
everyone and everything is doomed to failure.

DAG> Now that I think about it, I've got a system upgrade coming up for that
DAG>machine to get the operating system current again, too. I think you're
DAG>supposed to have a crucifix for at least portions of that, according to the
DAG>upgrade guide.

I'm ignoring the "upgrade to Windows 10" option on the main BBS computer. I'm
happy with Windows 7 32-bit, and have everything working the way I want it. The
original BBS computer wouldn't boot up in April, and I haven't powered it up
since then. I'm seriously considering donating it to the local shop for parts.
The other 2 laptops I have have Windows XP Service Pack 3 on one of them, with
the MagicJack (tm) line I use for voice mail...and Windows Vista Home Basic,
with the MagicJack Plus (tm) on it that I use with a Us Robotics modem for
faxes. I had bought a used laptop from a fellow Sysop, with Windows 7 on it,
but the power adapter kept heating help too quickly. So, I'm just using that
one in an emergency.

DAG> That sounds a lot like what I saw. What I saw was probably a hilltop or
DAG>away, or likely I wouldn't be around to be talking about it, but it was eno
DAG>so that I couldn't really tell WHERE it originated (all I saw was Bright) a
DAG>left me stunned for several seconds afterwards.

Both of my strikes were indirect...at 3 and 16 years of age...but I still got
the severe shock...and both were in south Florida.

My parents home had a big plate glass window in the front living room, and we
had coconut trees in our front yard. One of the fronds was on the house, and I
was fascinated by lightning dancing across the sky during an evening
thunderstorm.

Lightning hit the tree, and it engulfed the house "in a red glow of fire",
although the house itself did not catch fire. I had my hands on the metal frame
of the window, and moisture had condensed around it. When the strike occurred,
the surge, the metal, and the moisture gave me a severe shock. I started
screaming bloody murder, and for 10 years afterward, you couldn't take a flash
picture of me, as I'd scream in terror from the "flash back"...no pun intended.

The strike also blew tiles off the bathroom wall, and sent sparks out the
back of the house. My father called the Fire Department to come by, and check
things out.

The second strike occurred after I had finished delivering an afternoon
newspaper route on my bicycle, for the now former publication, "The Miami
News", in a tropical thunderstorm. It was as if I had jumped into the swimming
pool, fully dressed.

I closed the garage door, to change out of my wet clothes...and just as I put
my wet hand on the washing machine to steady myself, lightning hit the house
again.

DAG> Speaking of CPR, I really need to get my CPR certification, if not full
DAG>First
DAG>Responder certification, valid and good in this state at some point.

I took a CPR course from the local Red Cross chapter years ago, but my health
won't let me do that anymore.

DAG> Heh. I'm a resistor not a capacitor, Jim.

I might have to consider that as a tagline.

Daryl
