Thanks for the messages about starting and stopping services via the command
line. That was much to simple... 8^)
As far as the use of the fax service at the same time as RAS server, I've
one
quite a bit of testing and digging into things. Turns out that only a few
modems have been verified for adaptive answer (according to the Readme, only
couple of Hayes Accura and Optima as well as one Practical Peripherals
modems). The USR modems support adaptive answer but the support seems to be
different (the various DLLs are using the +FAE= fax command while USR uses
+FAA (the USRs error when trying to use +FAE)). I tried diddling with the
Awmodem.inf file to see if I could force it and even modified the DLLs to use
+FAA with no success (might work but the combinations I tried were
unsuccessful). I downloaded a file from USR's web site that addresses
adaptive answer and used it, along with multiple USR modem manuals, to verify
my suppositions and theories.
Since this is only a technology preview (i.e. beta software) and it hasn't
been tested/configured on all modems (or at least mine), I'm stuck. I'll use
a cron job to start and stop services so faxes can be received during the day
and RAS dialins can occur at night without needing me to remember to
start/stop services manually.
Thanks for the feedback...
