MA>Does anyone know if Disney ever came out with the original Song of the
South
MA>movie on VCR tape? I loved that movie as a child and wanted my two little
bo
MA>to see it, but I cant find it anywhere. A friend said that Disney wont
relea
MA>it in the USA but he saw it in Manchester,England. I think that he saw
hat
MA>music tape with Uncle Remus on the front and just thought it was Song of
the
MA>South.
Unfortunately no. The reason for it has to do with the stereotypical
role Uncle Remus had in the movie. Some African=Americans found it to
be a step backwards in history.
   Soapbox mode on:
OK. I'll say this because it needs to be said not just for white
people but for every person with a racial background. We have to
recognize that what happened to black people in The 19th century
and even before that was horrific. I can remember crying over hearing
about the travesties they went through during a class session with my
   teacher.
Now even though I found this very revolting. I still find that even
today some of the members in The Black Community still will not
forgive White Americans for the slaughter done to them. Not too long
ago I saw a talk show which had a guy on who was flaunting his racial
status like he was God incarnate.
Even in this day and age we are fighting over who is better, faster
and smarter and use our heritage as an excuse to pound on the other
guy. Both sides have taken on a very militant stance which I find
downright scary. We fight over who has the true religion to who would
   make a better President.
***PEOPLE!!! WE HAVE TO CUT THIS OUT NOW!!!***
This is our planet. We can't knock each other off because you don't
like that person because he/she is different. Admittably I have my
own prejudices but they are not racially motivated. I certainly
wouldn't have gone out and shot somebody for it.
Seems to me we learned nothing from what happened during the L.A.
Riots. We learned nothing from The OJ Simpson rigamorole. We still
believe that one little slip up from Disney is all their fault.
We can't change the past. We can't force the future to go our way
by being animals let loose from the zoo. We all make mistakes. BIG
MISTAKES. Some are worse than others. Others are downright appalling.
We can't expect to be neighborly if we can't learn to live in peace.
I don't expect things to get better, but I do certainly know one way
or the other we will learn something from all of this. Think about
   it.
   Soap box off!!!
OK. I'm through sermonizing. That's the last time I'll get so carried
   away by my emotions again.
