That is the usual case.  Other window managers do that as well.  Actually I
like that but don't care for KDE itself.  It reminds me too much of
something ... four times too!!!  ;-)

Okay.  Might be the kernel then.  Does Knoppix have a config file for the
supplied kernel?  I am not sure it will or where it might happen to be. 
Perhaps in /boot although it could be in /proc.
