On 02-20-98, DAVID HARTUNG declared to ROBERT PLETT:
DH> RP> Support for an attack on Iraq is already fading, and so are Clinton's
DH> RP> poll numbers.
DH> What is your source for this? The main stream media is claiming that
DH> support for an Iraqi strike is growing.
Mainstream media. Despite their reporting high support, there was a
fall-off of around 10 points in the first week alone. There's a
difference between support for eliminating the problem and support for
the administration's plan, and has been from the outset. Same for
Clinton's so-called popularity - there's a difference between
satisfaction with apparent performance, which relates to the condition
of the economy, and how he's viewed as a person. In the latter case, If
I'm not mistaken, his negatives are higher than his positives, and the
negatives continue to rise.
