KK> Are you by chance a member of the "Sub-Committee"?
Yes...I'm a long time member of The SubCommittee. My membership dates back to
about issue 3 or 4 of the SCR when it was printed on cheap newsprint with
almost indecipherably bad photo reproductions. It's now THE best hobbiest
publication that I've ever seen.

A nuke is definitely the way to go. My reccomendation would be to get
something with a lot of beam compared to it's length (i.e. something
"stubby"). That will give you more room to work with. It's kinda tough
working in a hull that's only 4" wide. I'd check out something like a 1/72
scale STURGEON. THE SCALE SHIPYARD is supposed to be offering a 1/48 scale
PERMIT that would be perfect but I don't think the hull has actually been
released yet (though they've been promising it for about 2 years).
My DALLAS (of the LOS ANGELES class) is the 1/48 scale DeBoer hull. A truly
magnificent hull but not something I would reccomend for most folks. It's way
too big and too expensive. I have a damaged SKIPJACK hull (long story) also
from DeBoer. It's in 1/48 scale is an ideal size: 63" long with an 8" beam.
But DeBoer hulls are just too expensive. When I got mine, there wasn't much
selection. I bought the "Cadillac" of sub hulls because they were the only
game in town. But the selection is so much better today that I envy the
people who just looking for their first sub...they actually have a choice.
