DB> It may be moral, but it will not decrease the number of innocent
DB> victims of murder. Many of the victims are store clerks shot by
DB> some hood all cranked up on one drug or another. Since the hood
DB> is not *rational*, the threat of execution is irrelevant.
People executed, for reason of 1st degree murder conviction
or 3-time violent felony conviction, *cannot*kill*. That, and
other adjustments to how we deal with criminals, will save
many innocent lives.
The punk who shoots the store clerk is not devoid of rational. He
makes a risk vs. gain judgment and he knows that his chance of
getting caught is slim and even if caught he will face only a
relative slap on the wrist (maybe even a step up in quality of
life) What he is devoid of is respect for the life and property
of others.
DB> The other vast pool of victims were parts of a love triangle, and
DB> here too, the passions are so enflamed, that rationality does not
 DB> enter in.
Many murders are domestic, but they're usually not love
triangles. They are things like some slut getting killed
by her punk boyfriend or some trash woman shooting her
sleeping husband because she thinks she is abused. Even these
people are do not have their rational overcome by passion.
The woman knows that she can argue "battered woman syndrome"
and receive a relative slap on the wrist, if convicted at all.
Besides, I don't care so much about such murders because
the victim could easily avoid being killed, unlike the store
clerk.
 DB> The habit of assault
DB> acquired by a mugger or robber makes him incurably dangerous, and
DB> a prompt execution would be best for the saftety of prison guards
DB> and others at the facility.
Right.
DB> To test whether execution is a deterrent, spoze we announce that
DB> we will compute the risk of death a store clerk runs, and that as
DB> part of the punishment for armed robbery, we will, in addition to
DB> the prison term, *randomly* execute robbers.
Yes, that would reduce the number of store clerks shot.
