I don't know for sure what a "stupendous" deal is, but budget is
overwhelmingly in control here. If that weren't true I would, indeed,
get a whole new system. This board is a little ahead of the The last
board was a little "behind" the CPU. This one is a little
"ahead" of
the CPU. Theoretically I can upgrade the CPU later. I choose to stay
behind the technology curve simply because it is a lot cheaper. (The
ancient 1200gz CPU I have was once one of the hottest, newest, fastest
things out!) Of course the word "lot" has different meanings to people
with different incomes.

Only one 256mb stick here.

462 pin rig - yes.

3 or 4 seconds after powering on.

It ran for 10 or 15 seconds before I put the CPU power in, then it
stopped instantly.

New info.

After catching up on things (using the old mobo) I put the new board in
again to try it out. It took off like a scalded dog. I spent a little
time making minor adjustments for a better fit with the system - even
got some email. After power down, the next time I hit the power switch
it didn't even hint at starting. Zip. Nothing. Nada. Now I'm back to
the old board again.
