And with a little comon sense the hole could be considerably bigger so
more fins could be used.  If there was an affordable unit available I'd
QUICKLy take a hack sw to the back of the computer case.  I may be
hesitant to minkey around with fan speeds, but I have no compunction
about physical matters like sheet steel.

For all that, cases could be made with an even bigger hole in the top. 
Fanless design would be a no brainer if the whole top of it were open to
fresh air.  Top _and_ back?  Visualize fins like thay had on cars in the
50's!!  ;-)
