I don't understand how Norway comes into the picture. In the southeast
we have Estonia, to the east we have Finland and to the west Sweden and
in north the border between Sweden/Finland. Norway is beyond all those.

Well, I was born and grew up in Helsingfors (Helsinki), which indeed has
a greater population, and moved to Mariehamn in 1957. I love this place.

I don't know where you got those distances. Hamburg is ca. 900 km from
here and the distance between Hamburg - M�nchen is less than 500 km as
the birds fly.
