subject: Referendum results..

RL>> Here are the somewhat apathetic results from the referendum that was
RL>> asked "Do we want a moderator to run this echo??"......

IM> Who appointed you as the "official" spokesperson for this echo?

IM> How can you presume to call for nominations to a position that was
IM> specifically excluded when this echo was started?

The echo was released to the participants - once it's put in the public
domain, it's NOT private property any longer. The way to keep control of
it would have been to do the work of moderating it - in any way you chose.
You copped out on doing the work - don't cry about the results not being
good now.

IM> I would like to ask that the people who started this echo be consulted as
IM> to what they would like to do.

It's a free country. Ask. The whole lot of 'em - including the advertisers
who have left, and complained bitterly as they did. Ask politely - the
current users own it.

IM> I am disgusted with the antics of the "yahoos" in this
echo but I think
IM> that they dissappear over time, probably due to self abuse.

Doubt it - but it's possible. I've yet to see a chat echo self heal.

This wasn't to be a chat echo. It had a specific commercial purpose, and
it was rather special, which is why I put in the effort at the time to
ensure that it got past the Fidocensors who wished to prevent it from
happening.

You _did_ wish to remember that, right?

IM> Dave Hatch presumes to have the right to cut this echo from the backbone.

More to the point, if it remained junk, I would have stopped hauling it so
a viable replacement could someday be formed - if any advertisers are
willing to come back from the internet, that is.

IM> What other echos will he cut if he does not like them? What about LTAUE?
IM> Who give him the right to control all echomail on the net?

Money, sweat, lots of persistence, and a dogged determination to haul mail
for unthankful sods. Matter of fact, the only thing that I'm controlling
is what I personally waste on demolished echoes, in this particular case.

IM> If Dave has this right then I do not want to be part of his backbone

Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out - I've no wish to
compel anyone to stay around anywhere they don't want to.

Passing through the exit gate, front up via netmail to David Nugent
3:633/348 (ZC), and volunteer to be part of the new backbone which is
needed to be formed in the near future. 712/515 is retiring, and so am I.
Having held up your hand at the wrong time, one guess who's gonna get
dobbed...:-)

Copy of this message is going to him tonight. Volunteers are useful - and
I must admit that the sentence does fit the crime to a T. Happy days
friend.

IM> offer to move this echo independantly of his system as long as it remains
IM> unmoderated. I will happily put my Telstra dollar where my mouth is to get
IM> this echo to remain unmoderated.

Your ethical course of action is to offer to moderate the thing yourself -
as one of the founders, you have a reasonable priority to the position.
If the users of the echo who now own it accept your claim, well and good.
You are then free to propose any mistreatment of your users you wish -
including the effective barring of all advertisers by the means of
continuous chatmail.

Mind you, then YOU will then get the hatemail, and not me. Off yez go -
best of luck with your echo, and best of luck as a major hub to be, if
you're accepted.

Byeee... Dave Hatch
