| subject: | [OS2HW] Half-brickbats? |
My Epox query seems to have been pretty fruitful. More so than requests
for recommendations, which I take to show that there's nothing
outstanding to recommend. Now, on to the next item a specific power
supply. Maybe not as likely to get a big result.
I'm starting to like the Coolmax Pci Express CXI-400B (400W). The
online calculator mentioned here gives me a reading of about 280 watts.
I'm allowing for possible growth. But more than that I can't find a
certain feature I like in a 300 or 350 watt.
The feature? After reading stuff on that silent PC site I concluded
that most PSU fan's run way faster than necessary. I don't detect any
heat coming out of mine. In fact my underdesk setup needs a shield or
it will chill my legs (70 degree environment). So I want one I can
control, and that means a control must be available. I don't see the
controls on the lower wattage PSU's.
Another thing is the large, slow fan, but that's available on a lot of
them now.
Anyhow, any half-brickbats on the Coolmax CXI-400B?
Oh, I have a pet peeve brickbat of a different sort. A guy on eBay is
selling PSU's. The title included Coolmax, Enermax, Antec and more. On
the page, you see that he's selling unbranded PSU's of what looks to be
the junk sort. Shades of bait 'n' switch. Not cool.
