She apparently sued the wrong entity. The cup manufacturer was at fault
for not making the cup sturdy enough to withstand sufficient side
pressure in order to drive while holding the cup between your legs.
Absurd? Yes, but no more so that placing blame on McD's for serving hot
coffee.
