To begin with, the Main and Bye badly rattled James and his court.  That
showed clearly that England was not united behind him, as it had been
behind Elizabeth.  Secondly, England was not making an overall profit off
of piracy.  Third, the Dutch were just beginning to emerge, first as
competitors, and later as enemies.

HOW did it have anything to do with the inception of piracy?  What about
protestantism CAUSED the English to become pirates?
