No, I don't entrust any precious data to a single HDD. Especially the
2.5" model I'm using now (which was not designed for round-the-clock
operation in the first place). Ambient temperature is hardly a concern
with such HDDs - 43 deg. C was the worst result in a suffocating plastic
caddy.
BTW, there is another factor of reliability - don't forget about
mainboard capacitors that could expend their resource much earlier in a
warmer atmosphere. Unlike the HDD, I don't see any clear choice in this
area - now that might definitely be a showstopper.

Now imagine yourself in the place of an innocent consumer who was fooled
into purchasing one of those touted "fanless solutions" only to discover
that they need "some additional forced cooling".
