Hello Roy -

MK>>>> Currently I am playing with the idea of audio/visual
MK>>>> streaming on the wireless connection so I put a small
MK>>>> box with three network interfaces (all Intel Pro's) and
MK>>>> a VIA C3 800MHz processor as the firewall/router.
MK>>>> Basically all it needs now is for me to get off my * and
MK>>>> get streaming working from there.

RJT>>> I've considered that too, locally from room to room. Put
RJT>>> a low-profile bo the top of the tv and rig it to work
RJT>>> from a remote rather than a keyboard, drive it into the
RJT>>> tv rather than a monitor. Might be do-able.

TW>> Are you forgetting the LOUSY resolution of a TV compaired
TW>> to a Monitor?? A TV is roughly the equilivent of the OLD
TW>> EGA resolution.

CA>> Roy tends to use legacy computer hardware which means he
CA>> is using text mode (CLI) most of the time.

RJT> Actually I'm using VGA 50-line mode on this box, and on
RJT> the other two go for as high as I can get it, which means
RJT> 132x60 in textmode and 1024x767 in X,

That would be "1024x768", not 767. :-)

RJT> I'm not sure if that monitor will do 12xx x xxxx, whatever
RJT> the next step up is. And it's only a 13" monitor anyway,
RJT> anything bigger would take up too much of my desk. And I
RJT> spend a fair amount of time in KDE.

My response was a reply to your having said you might use TV
output. I realize that you have actual computer monitors and
can do 'better' than TV out.

CA>> For text-only a TV might be tolerable. If not linux fonts
CA>> can be altered to make that more readable.

RJT> Yes, there is that, which I think is pretty nice. Though
RJT> the ability to do that isn't by any means limited to
RJT> linux, I'm pretty sure I have some dos-based stuff for the
RJT> same purpose in the files section.

Yes, DOS and Windows have that capability as well as other OS
usually do if text mode is of any importance to the OS users.
