Not really. :-)

Kylix. The most recent version compiles Delphi/C & C++ code, but is
restricted to Pentium-based Linux distros.

I've used it occasionally but don't really have a decent system to run it
on. You need at least 128 Mb of memory on a 300 MHz machine with 500 Mb or
so disk space to really use it effectively.

If you've had any experience using the Borland C++ Builder or Delphi IDEs,
it's very similar.

Unfortunately it looks like Borland's put Kylix on the backburner for the
time being, probably due
to lack of user interest. The general impression I get is that anyone
who's interested in serious development under Linux will prefer to rely on
open source tools, eg. GNU C++ & KDevelop, and that there is not such a
high demand for "rapid application development" programming under
Linux as there is in Windows.

I recall reading a few stories on the Slashdot forums about installation
woes and IDE sluggishness/instability. I encountered that myself,
somewhat. Among other things, the Kylix IDE runs under its own minimal
version of WINE (Windows API emulation for X Windows), which does make it
less responsive than it should be. Fortunately, programs you write don't
require WINE - only some Qt libraries, I think (depending on what
components you use) - but it's unusual that Borland don't "eat their
own dog food" with the IDE itself, particularly now they're at version
3.0. I'm not sure what would happen if you tried to run the Kylix IDE
under native Windows. I suspect Borland have done some tricky integration
things to prevent that sort of thing though.

Andrew
