Well you are right, your whole house will smell very strongly of
onions. I did my onions in the utility room, not inside.  The
smell went out the window and you could smell them all over the
back yard. I was afraid my neighbors might complain!  .
But the dried onions and leeks are real handy to have around. So
drying is a good idea if you have lot's of extras.

That would be nice to be able to  have a place to store cabbages
and things like that, but no where cool enough here.

I never thought of that, that is a real advantage.
