Ours is a representative democracy, and as such it is their job to serve
the people as *representatives*, which does imply an element of
responsibility and leadership. If simple majority is your preference, why
not do away with our representatives -- and the Constitution -- entirely
and simply hook everyone up to the Internet? That way, any major decision
of this sort could be made with a simple thumbs up/thumbs down
instantaneous vote.
Heck, with such an efficient system, we wouldn't need laws either.
