[Fabio Franca was recently overheard saying to All...]
FF> By now I would like to develop Software for Windows in Clipper 5.3 or
FF> Visual Objects so I would like to get information about these
FF> softwares. Could you help me?
5.3 only includes a Windows development environment. It does NOT
allow you to generate native Windows application by itself. You
would need an additional product to design programs that are
native Windows apps, i.e. FiveWin, Clip-4-Win, or CA-VO. There is
also another one called Dolce, but I do not know too much about it
nor have it seen it beyond an article that was in Reference Clipper.
FiveWin though allow you to write native Windows applications by
making calls to the library that is included in the program. You
would still need to make some modifications to your program in
regards to items such as TBrowse. I have a copy of it here, and
you can probably order it from one of the distributors. The
product was initially designed in Spain and is more cost effective
in regards to CA-VO. It does include a multitude of examples and
an IDE for Windows. You do not have to upgrade to CA-Clipper 5.3
for this, you can use 5.2 if you like. The only thing is that you
will need a Windows linker or you will have to use an additional
program that is included with the program to generate Windows
applications.
On the other hand, there is CA-VO. It is a native Windows apps
generation language from CA. I do not know too much about it
beyond the fact that you can develop application for it to run
in Windows. I do not know about the IDE...so, I cannot offer any
information.
