From my point of view %rescan is most useful when adding new echoareas.

The actual function definition for "%rescan" = "rescan all following listed
echoareas" does fit well when linking new echos.

An unwanted "rescan all" would deliver 3+ GB here if all echos are linked.

So it's a kind of user protection to ask the user to say "send me a mailbomb"
by confirming the "%rescan all" with the standard wildcard "*".
