RS>> "It" (TG) doesn't support Telnet any more than RG,
RA, or any other
RS>> crappy 16-bit BBS software does. Sure, you can use a 3rd party FOSSIL
RS>> driver (like SyncFOSS or NETFOSS for Windows or Ray Gwinn's VMODEM/SIO
RS>> for OS/2) to kludge the BBS softare into thinking it's talking to a
RS>> serial port/modem, but that doesn't make TG "support
Telnet" any more
RS>> than any other software for those platforms.

SA> bad. We can flame your software but we don't lower
 SA> ourselves
 SA> like that.

I can... and it's not lowering myself to bust the ego of somebody like that
who will flame other software where such an ego is not justified.

I have evaluated, many times, Synch... despite all of its boasted about IP
capabilities, as a BBS software it is crap. No REAL SysOp would run it...
only those who want a quick and easy setup so they can say "lookee,
lookee... I run a BBS... sure... it looks almost exactly like every other
BBS that runs my crappy software and I can't do much about that, but it's a
BBS!" Moral of the story... if you've seen one crappy Synch BBS,
you've seen them all! Those who don;t think so, telnet into a bunch of
them... the originality of the setups is like the difference between green
and green.

The inter BBS chat? Yougoittabekiddinme... what crap.

Those 16 bit BBS programs that use crappy kludges like SyncFos??? Um...
where did that crappy thing come from? I prefer NetFos myself.

Proprietary message bases dependant on the internal scanner/tosser... crap,
crap, crap.

The Fidonet setup... the crapiest I've ever seen... also understand there
are FTSC conflicts with some items.

The customization abilities (going back to green to green comparison) are a
joke and a half... they are minimal at the best and a dog to work with.

Much more that I can't even recall, but there is more.

The final conclusion... if one wants to be a lazy SysOp and just have an
"on the fly" out of the box system that looks like everybody
elses, that nearly requires a degree in rocket science to personalize to a
reasonable level, then by all means choose Synchronet... have all your
supposed INet bells and whistles on a crappy system, or choose a real 32bit
BBS software like EleBBS, or go with a good old 16bit BBS software like
ProBoard (back in development, 32bit version in the process, rights bought
from TeleGrafix --http://proboardbbs.com---),
TG, Renegade, or any one of the real board softwares of the golden days out
there with GameSrv
as your telnet server... I guarantee the SysOp will get more personal
satisfaction that way.
