subject: F1: Lap record for Montoya at Valencia

By Nikki Reynolds, F1 Editor - Motorsport.com

Four more teams joined McLaren at Valencia today and it was Juan Pablo
Montoya at the top of the times with a new lap record. In the Williams FW26
Montoya clocked a best of 1:09.103, just a couple of tenths ahead of BAR's
Jenson Button. Williams test driver Marc Genˆ was also on duty in the second
FW26. Both drivers worked on tyres, traction control and practiced starts.

The pair of Jaguar's were split by the BAR of Takuma Sato in fourth and the
third BAR of tester Anthony Davidson was eighth quickest. Third placed
Christian Klien and fifth placed Mark Webber concentrated aerodynamics and
tyres, both completing over 100 in laps in the Jaguar R5 -- a marked
improvement for the team compared to previous tests.

"It was a very good day," said Webber. "We did lots of work
on the set-up,
traction control, starts and weight distribution -- all these things we
wanted to do before we managed to do with no problems at all today."

Kimi Raikkonen was the faster of the two McLarens, sixth, with teammate
David Coulthard tenth on the time sheet. Raikkonen experienced a minor fire
during a pit stop simulation and Coulthard an engine failure that disrupted
the team's day. Toyota test driver Ricardo Zonta was seventh, race driver
Cristiano da Matta rounding off the times of the 11 drivers on track.
