exactly. here are some relevant parts of an interview with some
trident guys:
[Crom Cruach]
Which of them have you written yourself?
- I haven't released that many; Little Mess, Horns of Jericho, Weirdo
and Cheeba were the only ones I believe- I rarely release my
creations...
I mostly write programs showing a specific hole in the system
protection, I rarely build an entire virus around it...
Would you feel guilty if one of your viruses made damage to a hospital?
- Yes; does this really need an explaination? I always try to make my
viruses as compatible as possible, and surely don't make destructive
ones. Sheesh, it is *way* more difficult to make something really non-
destructive...
[Masud Khafir]
Would you feel guilty if one of your viruses made damage to a
hospital?
- Yes, I would. For that reason I don't write viruses that destroy data.
I usualy don't spread them in the wild at all. I only did that once,
when I was in a bad mood. I don't wanna cause other people trouble.
For me creating them is the most important thing. But of course I
also like it if they get some worldwide attention. That's human
nature, I guess. That's why I don't mind if AV people get them.
But I don't see a problem in giving them to VX people either,
because my experience is that viruses in the VX scene very rarely
leak out in the wild.
[Dark Helmet]
Would you feel guilty if one of your viruses made damage to a hospital?
- I don't thinks so, because I don't feel responsible if someone else
start releasing viruses in the wild. As a matter of fact I think that
the most viruswriters don't spread there creation around in the wild.
KW>> I have some source code on my hard disk which unintentionally
KW>> mutilated some multisync monitors, so I could easily create one :)
KW> send it to rod, he's waiting anxiously to see such (believe to be)
KW> imaginary code...
well, when a program was released last year (iirc) containing that
code, only a few (maybe 10 or something) people complained about it
damaging their hardware while hundreds must have seen it. So, rod will
have some trouble finding a monitor on which it actually 'works'.
Which is also the reason why a virus containing such code wouldn't be
a threat, which in turn is the reason why such a virus will never be
created in the first place.
