Maurice Kinal wrote in a message to Roy J. Tellason: MK> Hey Roy! -=> Roy J. Tellason wrote to Maurice Kinal <=- MK> That is a change in attitude then. But is that because of 9/11 or MK> "enhanced" security? RJT> Mostly the latter, I think. MK> That seems to be the consensus. Shortly after 9/11 it seemed MK> everyone was in favour of increased security measures and claimed MK> it made them feel more comfortable. I haven't heard anyone saying MK> this lately. I don't remember saying that back then. Funny story. Last time I was in NYC, it was in August 2001, just before this all went down. I'd taken my granddaughter up there for her 10th birthday. We were in Chinatown, and she and "grammy" were poking around, in a gift shop, and I was standing just outside, scoping things out. This couple walked by, and I took notice of them. The girl was talking, quite involved in what she was talking about, and like a lot of New Yorkers, pretty much oblivious to what was going on around her. The guy, on the other hand, was scoping things out, just like I was. It was apparent to me that she was Jewish (no big surprise there, in NYC) and I got the impression that he was Israeli, perhaps even military or something. Our eyes met for a second, and we each knew that the other was on exactly the same wavelength when it came to taking care of business. MK> Or more but that's definetly a major complaint. There was talk MK> about some preapproved card, or something like that, whereby MK> presentation would permit bypassing all the hassel. I don't know MK> what happened with that. RJT> I remember that. Like lots of other ideas, it's subject to abuse, RJT> and to corruption. And maybe it wasn't seriously a proposal, but more RJT> of a trial balloon, like so much other stuff. RJT> It'd be no surprise to me at all to find that both business travelers RJT> and tourists are actively using alternatives and that _this_ is why the RJT> airlines are in trouble. MK> I heard an item the other day on the news where Air Canada claimed MK> the power outage cost them more then a few bucks. Always seems to MK> be something. Any excuse... That power outage seems to be a justification for a lot of things, the high gas prices for example. ---* Origin: TANSTAAFL BBS 717-838-8539 (1:270/615) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 270/615 150/220 379/1 106/1 2000 633/267 |
