COM5 is a software thing. It has nothing to do with hardware. What they
are really saying is that the standard Windows COM drivers allocate COM1
to COM4 and the COM5 is the next in the list of available COM port names.
The eCS/OS2 COM drivers have similar defaults, but these defaults can be
overridden.

First thing you need to do is verify that this is a PCI modem, which I
suspect it is. Run Veit's pci.exe and look for the modem in the output.
The output should list both a IO address and an IRQ, usually 10 or 11.

Some versions of SIO support more than 4 COM ports. The most recent IBM
supplied COM.SYS supports PCI modems reasonably well. Since you use eCS,
you have access to these drivers and they might already be installed.

Yes you are going to have to understand the differences between and ISA
modem and a PCI modem. It's not really all that much. ISA modems
typically support IO addresses such as 3F8 and 2F3 and IRQs 3 and 4 and
sometimes 5. PCI modems typically support IO address in the D000 to F000
range and IRQs from 10 to 12.

With some luck if should be sufficient to add the IO address and IRQ to
the COM.SYS command lines. See the online help for the proper syntax.

Steven
