    Shift-F1 toggles the line drawing on or off. If you had hit shift-F1 
again it would have turned it off.  Alt-F1 lets you select the line style 
(single or double line.)
    You could also press ESC to get the pull-down menu and select Other. The 
"Box drawing" selection under Other would have turned it off.
