Hey Andrew! Dec 03 03:48 05, Andrew Ball wrote to Maurice Kinal: AB> I bought a MiniDV camera and my hope is to be able to fetch video AB> from that over a FireWire cable, Ah! Yes that should work. Personally I don't archive much here so a stream makes more sense, but not over the internet since that would cost more then it is worth to me. What is nice is being able to format the stream in real time so that the more standard crippled apps can deal with it. The bonus is that reduces the bandwidth in half without losing too much but if I were only concerned about myself then I would archive the higher resolution signal and tweak my apps to be able to deal with it. You got the bottomline except missed the economics issues. AB> In my case that's rarely true: In AB> the car I have time to listen to content, but not the bandwidth to AB> stream it. Right, unless whatever you have in your auto can handle a DVD and then it could have the needed bandwidth. However I would stick with audio if I were the driver of that car. There are enough distractions already when driving. AB> In other places, I have plenty of bandwidth to stream AB> content, but no time to stop and listen to it. MPEG, MP3 and AB> QuickTime files let me decouple the action of downloading content AB> from the act of viewing or listening to it. In my particular situation the audio and visual can be streamed independantly if desired. At the moment I have the audio maxed out but could alter that stream so that it is within the realm of most, if not all, digital audio apps. That would effectively reduce the current bandwidth substantially as well as put it within the grasp of machines with slower cpu's.
