| subject: | Re: Specifics on modem retraining |
Once apon a time Bill Grimsley said, 'Re: Specifics on modem retraining' to Simon Byrnand... BG> The issue has become somewhat clouded too, due to some modems having BG> separate settings for enabling speed-shifting, as distinct from full BG> retrains. Yup. I am also now playing around with a 33.6K Dynalink USR Sportster clone, and on the ATI6 screen it always reports "Fallback Disabled". What is this fallback, is it related to speedshifting? How can it be enabled, and is it desirable to do so? The manual, as always, doesnt say much of value. Another point, I've heard a lot about a bug in the V42bis compression (?) which is supposed to cause large delays under certain circumstances, but I cant seem to provoke these symptoms at all, after using it on both BBS work, and dialup internet for more than a week. In other words, it seems to be working fine. Is it possible this specimen has later version firmware that fixes the bug? Here is an ATI7 dump: ati7 Configuration Profile... Product type US/Canada Internal Options V32bis,V.FC,V.34+ Fax Options Class 1/Class 2.0 Clock Freq 92.0Mhz Eprom 256k Ram 64k EPROM date 8/13/96 DSP date 8/13/96 EPROM rev 2.51 DSP rev 2.51 OK Also, do you know where I might find some technical information on the significance of the various stats on the undocumented ATI11 screen?
