| subject: | modems for a BBS |
On his death bed Glen Collins uttered modems for a BBS to All.....
GC> What I'd like to know is, can anyone recommend good modems around that
GC> price, that would suit my needs.... I have the prices of plenty of
GC> modems ranging from $155 up to $999, but I would really have a clue how
GC> they actually perform... The KTX brand seems to be the cheapest
GC> starting at around $155, then the dynalink, lightspeed etc.
GC> Are any of those cheaply priced modems any good? I payed over $300 for
GC> a Netcomm Roadster about 10 months ago, and thats had non stop
GC> problems... And now I see all teh modem reviews paying that modem out
GC> big time... Most users connect at 24000 with that modem... rarely 28.8k
GC> and never 33.6k :( So don't bother recommending that modem to me :)
GC> Also I've heard good things about Spirits, they start from about $300+
GC> Thanks to anyone that can help me out in this desprite situation!
GC> Please reply via this message area or via netmail to 3:712/526
I'd highly recommend the Tasmanian Devil, its not exactly a branded
model but it is 33.6kbps and it has very good cps rates, compared
to my smashed roadster which cost me nearly 3 times as much. I can
get around 3300cps constantly sometimes giving a constant 3900cps.
The tassy devil can be had for under $200 for the external model.

... Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.
