Hello Tom -

CA>> I tend to be a bit paranoid myself about pricing for newer
CA>> technology but what I see around here (Mich) are prices
CA>> going down while speed is going up.

TW> Here the Speed is creeping ypup but the price is basicly
TW> holding.

That too here at times. It varies.

TW> Except for the Sucker enticements for New customers. Soem
TW> last dfor 3 monthys and others for one year. BUT the proce
TW> goes back up After they set the hook.

I've watched some with the fine print find themselves in a very
competitive market when the time comes to 'up the price' and
they've had to hold at the original price or lose customers (en
masse).

CA>> They are testing transmition of internet protocols over
CA>> power lines in Australia. If this works another competitor
CA>> enters the contest.

TW> Wel if you8 are a Ham Rado Operator or a Shortwave
TW> listwenmer the Broadband over power lines is a total
TW> Disaster. In come cases in the triaals it has even
TW> inrterfered with Fire and Police Frequencies. It is
TW> posabibly one of the WORST Ideas the Idiots in Washington
TW> have approved.

I've heard about problems. Maybe they've come up with a new
'twist'?

CA>> We know how automated this 'service' is for an ISP and
CA>> once the equipment is setup and functional it should be
CA>> very low maintenance and high profit for the corporations
CA>> involved.

TW> BUT the get in Cost is VERY high and the Write off is VERY
TW> long.

Business are allowed acelerated depreciation aren't they?

TW> Then with the advances i ntescnology you must factoir in
TW> almost continual upgrades.

No more so than you and I have to I would think. If my
equipment is functioning why would I 'upgrade'?

TW> IT is not like hte old POTS line equipment that works for
TW> up to 50 years with very low capical costs.

I suppose that's true but with minimal employees there should
be a great deal of room for $profit$. :-)
