DD>Disabled does mean not enabled doesn't it?
You still can not see that 'Retrain Disabled' can have different
interpretations,
In my modems firmware
"Retrain Disabled" = "Local Retrain Disabled"
In your modems firmware
"Retrain Disabled" = "Local & Remote Retrain
Disabled"
Your opinion on this is irrelevant, it's in the firmware of real modems in
the real world, you can't change that.
LD> My modem and others has defined 'retrain
LD> disabled' to mean accept remote request but not initiate
LD> request.
DD>What's the point of that?
The point is obvious, look at your next statement:
DD>I guess the courier feels that if a retrain is necessary
DD>and the other end can't comply, there is no point in
DD>continuing the connection.
My modem feels that if the remote modem thinks a retrain is
necessary then it may as well comply, as there is no point
in losing the connection.
Between two Couriers:
Retraining enabled both ends =>
link is ok, retraining enabled
Retraining disabled on one end =>
link is lost upon a retrain request
Retraining disabled on both ends =>
link is ok, retraining disabled
Between two SmartModems:
Retraining enabled both ends =>
link is ok, retraining enabled
Retraining disabled on one end =>
link is ok, retrain request granted
Retraining disabled on both ends =>
link is ok, retraining disabled
What doesn't make sense?
