subject: F1: Initial agreement to 2008 proposals

At a meeting in Monaco today the Formula One teams gave their initial
agreement to the FIA proposals for changes to the sport in 2008. The exact
details have yet to be hammered out but it's possible some of the regulation
changes could be bought into effect by 2006. A reduced engine size, one tyre
supplier, banning of electronic devices, cutting back on private testing;
these were some of the FIA's ideas the teams agree, at least in principle.

"It was a very good meeting," said FIA president Max Mosley.
"Where I had
expected very significant dispute and debate there really was none and it
was very constructive. We went through all of the proposals and discussed
them with the teams in some detail and as far as doing things sooner than
2008 there was a wide measure of agreement that we need changes much
sooner."
